The location is also ideal for the forthcoming rugby world cup ( in between Nantes to the north and Bordeaux to the south ), as well as for the world moto-cross championship, one stage of which is held in St Jean D'Angely in early June.

It can also be used as a good base for house-hunting in the Poitou Charente region and nearby Dordogne.
